About Nyangombe Christian Training Centre
What We Do
Nyangombe Christian Training Centre (NCTC) is located in the African bush near Mwinilunga in the North Western Province of Zambia. The primary thrust of NCTC is Bible teaching where practical Christianity is taught within the framework of Lunda culture. NCTC is a Christian campus where skills training in carpentry, building, metal fabrication and mechanical fitting, IT, dressmaking and design, agriculture and animal husbandry are taught to equip young men and women in gaining either future employment or to earn an honest living through the utilisation of skills acquired.
NCTC is unique in the district and is the only combined Bible teaching and skills training centre within 100,000 square kilometres.
History
In 1987, Mr Barry Haigh approached Senior Chief Sailunga with his vision to see a Bible school and skills training centre built in the Chief’s area. As part of Barry’s vision the chosen site needed a waterfall on which to build a hydro power station to generate electricity for the campus.
Chief Sailunga gave 1,061 hectares (2,620 acres) along a remote area of the Nyangombe River and requested that the site be developed by Mr Haigh. Brass Tacks UK and in particular, Mr Colin Breeze, assisted with initial Bible school construction and the building of a hydro power station.
Les and Jean White joined Barry and Rachel Haigh at Nyangombe in 1990 and Les’s skills in electrical engineering have been well utilised ever since.
In 1999, Gordon and Sybil McKillop joined the team at NCTC when unable to return to the Democratic Republic of Congo where they had served for eighteen years. During the years that followed, development of a Zambian leadership team at the Bible school and skills training complex has been a major focus. The expansion and impact of NCTC is directly related to the excellent Zambian staff members who run their own departments with diligence and enthusiasm.
Chris and Robin Kretschman joined the ranks of short-term teams in 2016 when they began spending their leave time teaching in the Bible School and in the women’s ministry. In 2021, they devoted three months to a NCTC visioning trip, praying for God’s direction in their lives as they served along side Nyangombe staff. Then in 2022, after 31 years pastoring in the United States, they made the permanent move to Zambia to follow God’s calling and be a part of the Nyangombe team. Chris brings an Old Testament Survey course to the Bible School that highlights Christ throughout the scriptures as well as God’s world mission to reach everyone.
