Enhancing Maternal Care at Nyangombe Bible School Health Post

Since Nyangombe Bible School Health Post was opened 25 years ago, the initial 'female ward' almost immediately 'evolved' into a 'maternity suite' where our resident missionary nurse, with experience of over 4,000 deliveries, taught and worked together with a team of Traditional Birth Attendants to provide high-quality antenatal, labor, delivery, and postpartum services.  In recent years additional trained nurses have been assigned to Nyangombe Health Post and taken over the 'maternity work'.

This year, we are thrilled to announce an exciting development: the opening of a new, spacious maternity ward, further enhancing the vital services being offered to women in the area.

The need for this expansion has long been identified and discussed by Nyangombe leaders, village headmen and community heath workers, all of whom give input into the clinic’s priorities. With this new addition, there will be more room and privacy for new mothers, and it will also free up space in the Clinic and maybe even allow the 'female ward' to function as originally intended.

The present 'Maternity Building Project' was initiated by Government funding but in July 2024 the project was taken over by Nyangombe leadership.  As with all building at Nyangombe, it is a team effort with planners, organisers, builders, painters and carpenters providing their individual expertise and with their respective trainees gaining valuable work experience as they all worked together towards the final completion of this new Maternity Unit.
